President’s Message
Welcome to the Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project is committed to safely and compliantly retrieve, characterize, process, and package 65,000 cubic meters of transuranic nuclear waste and mixed low level waste for shipment to permanent disposal sites outside of Idaho. Bechtel BWXT Idaho manages and operates AMWTP for the Department.
Employees at AMWTP have safely shipped more transuranic waste out of Idaho than has been shipped from any other DOE site. We're proud of our work and the contract extensions our customer has provided through September 30, 2009.
Fundamental to our operations are the critically important roles of safety and regulatory compliance. Unsafe or noncompliant work will instantly shut down our operations and keep waste from leaving Idaho. Production is important, but it can not come at the cost of an injured worker, or anything less then full compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Working with DOE, regulators, and stakeholders, we are several years ahead of the schedule contained in the Idaho Governor's Settlement Agreement to remove stored transuranic waste from Idaho. We are continuing to set the standard of excellence for processing radioactive waste in the DOE complex and keeping commitments and relationships with our neighbors and friends in Idaho.
